The Buddhist monk considers the cleanliness of the house something to which we must attach great importance. Thanks to these tips we will not only have a clean and orderly house but also a renewed and regenerated spirit.

The monk Tulku Thondup dedicated several years of his life to translating and interpreting the ancient Buddhist texts and affirms that if we could see the cleanliness of the house as a privilege and not as a hard and heavy work, we will have the opportunity to meditate in a unique way about what it means to keep the place where we live clean.

The concept of “cleaning the house” has not only a literal sense but also a symbolic one. This can be useful to get rid of emotional burdens and things that are no longer useful to us. It is easy to realize that the disorder generates stress and worries. Performing home tasks taking it as an exercise of conscious attention, can bring us important benefits and even become a therapy.

That is why we must consider the tasks of order and cleanliness of our home as a positive act and an exercise to relieve stress. Find a way to predispose yourself to make this conditioning of your home with a different attitude and change the sense of hard and heavy work.

1) Respect for the work of others.

Those who do not take care of the assets they own, hardly care for the people around them. We must not forget that each object we possess is the result of the work of a person who created or invented it and that person deposited his effort and time in that object.

We must take care of everything we have and show gratitude and respect for the work of others.

2) Thank what you received.

We should not throw away things that are no longer useful, but think that there is someone else they could serve. That is why recycling is important because it has to do not only with the accumulation of waste that affects the environment but also with the help we can provide by donating what we no longer use.

3) Clean and tidy in moments of tranquility.

Start cleaning your house when you are alone and as quietly as possible. The early morning or night when everyone is sleeping is the best time to take care of home tasks quietly.

At this moment, your heart will feel serene and the spirit will calmly take care of all the tasks you have thought during the day that you should perform.

4) Breathe new air.

Before you start cleaning, open doors and windows even when it’s cold and let the indoor air get out as you breathe in new air to give you the energy you need to work inside your house.

5) Do not leave dirty dishes in the kitchen.

We know that night comes and after dinner, all we want is our well-deserved rest, but in the morning when you get up, find a kitchen full of dishes and dishes to wash, does not predispose for good.

In nature, each process must be completed at the end of the day so that a new day can be started with renewed energy.

6) Stay focused.

Buddhism is a philosophy that has practically analyzed everything; even, the effects that cleanliness has on our physical and mental well-being. Buddhism conceives cleanliness with a form of meditation that can be done daily. Monks consider household chores as a spiritual exercise through which we can cultivate and purify the spirit, soul, and life.

For Buddhists, the environment in which we live is connected to our being and reflects our spirit. They explain that when a place is disordered, our spirit is also disordered so that if we keep our house tidy, our inner being will remain clear and calm.

Also, consider that while we order and cleanse, our spirit is concentrated in the present. The fact of living “here and now” is one of the keys to happiness and success in life.
